The Office of Inspector General at the U.S. Department of Agriculture says the Risk Management Agency hasn’t done enough to combat crop insurance fraud. The OIG says the RMA needs to expand its use of data from the Center for Agribusiness Excellence, which does spot checks on producers who have unusual crop insurance claims. National Corn Growers Association Board member and Nebraska grower Brandon Hunnicutt says the OIG report is concerning.
He says the more data that can be compiled regarding crop insurance claims the better. Hunnicutt says it’s critical the Federal Crop Insurance Program is run properly.
Hunnicutt says NCGA will be monitoring what happens with the latest OIG report and the RMA’s response to it.
The OIG criticized RMA for not collecting information from insurance reviews to identify any possible weakness in the program.
