Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Department (HSEMD) director, Mark Schouten says the initial damage estimate for public infrastructure from flooding in northwest Iowa is 11 million dollars.
Between 100 and 150 houses are estimated to have major damage. Schouten made his comments at Governor Terry Branstad’s weekly meeting with the media. The governor says the damage estimates also do not include crops.
Schouten says the flood concerns have moved to eastern Iowa where the waters have risen this weekend after heavy rains. He says we are supposed to have a dry period over the next two days — which should help.
The governor issued state disaster declarations for Buena Vista, Cedar, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Franklin, Hancock, Ida, Kossuth, Lyon, Osceola, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Pocahontas, Sac, Sioux, Woodbury and Wright counties for flood or storm damage.
