New Angus LLC is working on plans to open a beef processing plant in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Dennis Hellwig of Hub City Livestock was with the original group that attempted to get a beef plant operating in Aberdeen. He’s confident New Angus will get their facility open sometime before the end of the year. Hellwig says Aberdeen is a great location for a beef processing plant.
Hellwig says they’re hoping that they’ll be able to raise certified beef that will go to the packing plant.
He says other advantages cattle producers have in the Aberdeen area is a lot of water, good grass and corn and ethanol plants. Hellwig says by processing the cattle locally they won’t have the shipping costs to deal with.
