Officials are continuing to estimate the damages caused by Hurricane IDA on waterway channels including mostly the Mississippi River. Waterways Council Senior Vice President Deb Calhoun says it will take a long time to get export shipping back to normal.

She says there are several obstructions caused by IDA that need to be cleared up in the Mississippi River.

Calhoun says in addition to all these problems, there are many grain terminals that have been damaged and need to be repaired. She says these fixes won’t happen overnight.

Calhoun says besides the obstructions, and grain terminal damages, there are boats and barges that are scattered all over, some up on roads and some on the levees.
