The October export numbers are out. U.S. pork exports are up 5-percent by volume over one year ago, valued at $565 million. U.S. Meat Export Federation Vice President of Communications Joe Schuele attributes the positive numbers to a rebound in sales to Mexico.
He says Mexico is a top market for U.S. ham.
Schuele says meat processors are the main buyers of hams in Mexico to be used for further processing.
U.S. pork currently has duty-free access to the Mexican market.
Through the first 10 months of 2017, pork exports are up 8-percent in volume and up 10-percent in value verses last year at $5.28 billion. Per head export value during that period was $52.64 per head.
