October Is Pork Month

October is pork month and several state pork organizations are working with grocery stores and supermarkets to feature special sales to promote the consumption of pork.  Joyce Hoppes is the Consumer Information Director with the Iowa Pork Producers Association.  Hoppes says consumers during this time of year are looking for new ideas, along with new recipes, and new ways to prepare pork.  State pork organizations along with the National Pork Board are addressing many myths associated with pork production and consumption.  Hoppes says studies have shown consumers have increased their demand for pork products, once they have a better idea of how pigs are raised.  The Iowa Pork Producers’ official says the current campaign is to change consumer attitudes, which will lead to a better appreciation for pork production, which ultimately means an increase in pork demand for consumption.
