Yankton, SD – A little after midnight on Monday, October 30, the Yankton Police Department responded to a business alarm on 23rd St. Once arriving on scene the officers noticed a broken window and reviewed surveillance video. The video review showed three individuals that were involved in the burglary and theft of the business.
At 5:31 AM, Officers responded to an apartment on 13th St. for disorderly subjects. Contact was made with three juvenile individuals who were identified as the suspects from the burglary.
A 13 year old, 14 year old and a 15 year old were arrested for 3rd Degree Burglary, 1st Degree Intentional damage to Property, 2nd Degree Petty Theft, and possession and consumption of alcohol. The juveniles were lodged at the Juvenile Detention Center.
The Yankton Police Department was assisted by the Yankton County Sheriff’s Office.
WATERTOWN, SD – A 16-year-old boy was arrested following an accidental shooting of a 17-year-old girl at an apartment in Watertown where a group had been drinking.
The incident, initially reported from a Burger King, took place on Sunday night.
While handling a loaded pistol under the influence of alcohol, the boy inadvertently shot the girl in the foot.
The boy now faces multiple charges, including Possession of a Firearm While Intoxicated and Reckless Discharge of a Firearm.
The injured girl was treated and released from Prairie Lakes Hospital, and the specific location and names of those involved have not been disclosed by the police.
PIERRE, SD – South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announces that a Pierre man was convicted Thursday by a Hughes County jury for assaulting and threatening correctional officers at the Hughes County Jail.
Isaiah V. Rouse, 30, was convicted of three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and one count of threatening a law enforcement officer or family. The charges occurred on January 13, 2023 and February 25, 2023 in the Hughes County Jail and involved four different correctional officers.
A sentencing date has not been scheduled. Rouse faces a maximum sentence of 75 years in prison and one year in the county jail. Rouse also has been charged with being a habitual offender and if found guilty on that charge, it would increase his maximum sentence to 150 years in prison and one year in the county jail.
The case was prosecuted by Jessica LaMie, who was the Hughes County State’s Attorney before she joined the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office.
“I appreciate Jessica’s efforts in continuing to prosecute this case first as State’s Attorney and then after joining our office,” said Attorney General Jackley. “This case is another example of the dangers our law enforcement officers face while they protect our communities and citizens.”
The case was investigated by the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office.
Prosecution was handled by the Attorney General’s Office and the Hughes County State’s Attorney’s Office.
DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services is reporting the state’s first flu death of the season.
The individual was an older adult, between the ages of 61 and 80, from southern Iowa according to the department’s information.
Iowa’s most recent respiratory virus surveillance report shows the virus at a low level of activity, and hospitals are currently reporting low patient admission rates.
State Medical Director Robert Kruse reminds Iowans to stay home when they are sick and to consult their healthcare providers about vaccines and other preventative measures against influenza and other respiratory diseases.
