RUTLAND, SD – Oldham-Ramona-Rutland School District is asking Community Members to vote for a nearly $15 million bond issue after voters struck it down in September with a $19 million estimate.

The District has scaled back the construction, according to the agenda paperwork from the Wednesday, October 4, 2023, School Board meeting; Tom Oster from CO-OP Architects and the building committee came up with cuts to take the project from $18,800,000 to $15,950,000.

The playground equipment will come from existing playgrounds, and the practice field and football field will be similar to the fields the school currently has, without grandstands. The track will be dug out but not finished with asphalt, and the School District will do the bus shed.

If passed, the “move-in date” would be December 2025.

A plan B will be presented after the structural engineers assess the Ramona and Rutland school buildings in early November.

The District’s Superintendent, Dawn Hoeke, says a new school is needed because of the small size of the district, being in a single building makes the school more efficient and effective, rather than two separate schools, 16 miles apart, and both are over 100 years old.

Last time, the vote failed 305 – No and 277 – Yes.

Property taxes on this proposed $15 million bond would increase an estimated .98 cents on every $100,000 worth of property.
