The Organization for Competitive Markets has outlined three major focus areas for policy they want enacted at the national level. OCM Executive Director Mike Eby says they’re backing the Opportunities for Fairness in Farming Act, a bill that would increase transparency in checkoff programs.

He also is optimistic about working with the new Biden administration on strengthening antitrust enforcement at the Department of Justice to help improve competitiveness in markets.

Eby says their third priority is to attempt to get mandatory country of origin labeling reinstated to guard against the influx of beef coming in from outside the United States.

Eby says the problem with a voluntary country of origin labeling program is that it allows too many loopholes that would harm the profitability opportunities for U.S. cattlemen.
