The Organization for Competitive Markets has written to President Trump urging him to support the Farmer Fair Practice GIPSA rules. The USDA is taking public comment on the rules in the Federal Register until March 24. OCM President Mike Weaver says they’re also urging their members to send in comments on the rules.

He says the farmer protections provided by the GIPSA farmer fair practice rules are badly needed for poultry producers.

Weaver says cattle producers are also being negatively impacted without those rules in effect.

The main purpose of the farmer fair practice GIPSA rules is to strengthen the Packers and Stockyards Act.
