The U.S. Department of Agriculture is expected to release newly proposed farmer fair practice rules either the end of this month or in early August. Organization for Competitive Markets Executive Director Joe Maxwell says his group and others will be pushing the Ag Department for solid protection rules and will be sharing those concerns with Congress.

He says they’ll also be holding a news conference as well as a Congressional Briefing and will be handing out petitions while they’re in Washington D.C.

Maxwell says its essential the new rules ensure transparent markets as well as stop insider market or sweetheart deals.

He says another reason those protections are needed is because 4 packers control 82 percent of the livestock market.
