Organization for Competitive Markets members presented petition signatures to Congress calling for them to stop the USDA from giving trade aid to Brazilian meat packer JBS. OCM Executive Director Joe Maxwell says they had over 1,000 signatures and they’re in the process of having legislation put together to make sure trade aid goes to U.S. processors.
He says they hope to get their legislation introduced this week.
Maxwell says their measure would require the US Ag Secretary buy American first when doling out trade aid.
Maxwell says their legislation also requires that should the Ag Secretary allow any trade aid to go to a trans national company like JBS that he then report to Congress instead of giving it to U.S. companies.
