In September, the Organization for Competitive Markets called on the U.S. Department of Agriculture to release federal mandated annual dairy checkoff reports to Congress. OCM President Mike Weaver says while those reports have now been sent to Congress they should have been sent earlier as required by law.
He says his group will be reviewing the information that’s been released by the USDA on the dairy checkoff and determine their next step.
Weaver says his group is backing companion legislation introduced in both Houses of Congress to change the checkoff programs to make them more responsible and transparent.
He says currently multinational corporations have control of the checkoffs and are using them against the best interests of producers.
