A Federal Court has granted the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association limited intervenor status in a lawsuit where the Organization for Competitive Markets is seeking records in the beef checkoff. OCM President Mike Weaver is pleased the court limited NCBA’s role in the case and says it will now proceed as his group seeks transparency and open records.

He says OCM is demanding the documents on the Beef Checkoff due to discrepancies between two audits. Weaver says his group wants to make sure checkoff funds are not used for lobbying.

Weaver expects the court case to take some time and isn’t surprised if it doesn’t move swiftly.

Weaver says it’s critical that all cattle producers have access to how beef checkoff funds are spent.
