Some elected officials and a Presidential Candidate are looking at possible solutions to Concentration issues negatively impacting agriculture. Organization for Competitive Markets Executive Director Joe Maxwell says his group’s members are pleased Montana Governor Steve Bullock who’s running for President wants a two year moratorium on ag mergers.
He says unless the ag concentration problem is addressed soon, the U.S. won’t have a middle class or small businesses. Maxwell says there needs to be access for open, fair and transparent markets.
Maxwell says OCM members are also bringing their concerns about ag mergers and concentration to Senators and Representatives.
Maxwell says besides trying to get headway on ag mergers, OCM members are also letting the USDA know they want to see movement on the rewrite of the GIPSA rules. He says it appears as if those won’t be out until late this month or early next month.
