On behalf of the Organization for Competitive Markets and individual farmers, Democracy Forward has filed a new brief in its ongoing lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Agriculture. OCM Executive Director Joe Maxwell says they’re arguing the Secretary of Agriculture unlawfully withdrew the GIPSA rules known as the Farmer Fair Practice Rules.

He says they’re telling the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals when the Ag Secretary withdrew the GIPSA rules, he went against the intent of Congress.

Maxwell says without the rules in place, ag producers have no market protections.

Maxwell says OCM is also asking President Trump to issue an Executive Order to implement the GIPSA rules.
