The Organization for Competitive Markets, along with R-CALF, have filed a court action seeking Oklahoma Supreme Court intervention regarding the state beef checkoff referendum. OCM Executive Director Joe Maxwell says the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association is attempting to create a state beef checkoff which would add a dollar a head to the current dollar a head federal checkoff. He says the referendum process is flawed.

He says OCM and R-CALF filed the legal action to ensure the checkoff vote is fair.

Maxwell says the issue also as implications for cattle producers in other states.

Maxwell says both his group and R-CALF are urging Oklahoma cattle producers to vote NO on the referendum on November 1, even though they’ve filed a legal action.
