The trade mitigation assistance, the market facilitation program provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture intended to help farmers and ranchers hurt by the trade war needs fixing. That’s according to Organization for Competitive Markets Executive Director Joe Maxwell. He says China owned Smithfield Foods is eligible for payments under the $12 billion aid package.
He says it doesn’t make sense to provide trade aid payments to a company whose profits end up going to the Chinese.
Maxwell says both Congress and the Administration need to fix the trade aid system.
Maxwell says not only is Smithfield eligible for trade mitigation aid but JBS of Brazil is also eligible to apply.
