The Organization for Competitive Markets and the National Farmers Union are disappointed the USDA will purchase 1.8 million pounds of pork from Brazilian firm JBS as part of the trade aid program. OCM Executive Director Joe Maxwell says that assistance is intended to help U.S. farmers and ranchers hurt by the trade war and shouldn’t go to a foreign company.
He says it’s disappointing that trade aid didn’t go to U.S. producers who need it. Plus, it’s wrong to subsidize a company with a bad track record.
Maxwell says OCM is seeking signatures for a petition they’ve posted on their website opposing the trade aid being given to JBS.
Maxwell says they’ll take their petition to Washington D.C. and present it to members of Congress.
