The Organization for Competitive Markets is still awaiting Freedom of Information Act data from the Office of Inspector General regarding the beef checkoff. OCM President Mike Weaver says they’re concerned NCBA has filed to intervene in their FOIA request.
He says his group doesn’t believe the beef checkoff program is being properly run and steps must be taken to change that.
Weaver says the way the beef checkoff program is being administered is hurting many U.S. cattle producers.
Weaver says OCM is also backing Senate Bill 3200 which would make all commodity checkoff programs voluntary. In addition, they’re supporting SB 3201 which calls for meaningful reform of checkoff programs including banning lobbying groups from receiving any checkoff funds.
