Nearly 100 groups, including the Organization for Competitive Markets, have written to leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee about concerns with agricultural concentration as they consider a new head of the anti-trust division of the U.S. Justice Department. OCM Executive Director Joe Maxwell says the groups want nominee Makan Delrahim to defend American agriculture against the mega concentration in the seed industry.

He says the position Delrahim would fill is a critical one for safeguarding the nation’s food supply.

Maxwell says if the mega seed company mergers are allowed to proceed the nation will face a major food security risk.

Maxwell says it’s already concerning that China is the top pork producer, Brazil is the leading beef producer and with the seed industry mergers, foreign companies will control that business as well.
