The Organization for Competitive Markets is asking the U.S. Justice Department to stop the JBS purchase of the bankrupt Mountain States Lamb Cooperatives processing plant in Greeley, Colorado. OCM Interim Executive Director Ben Gotschall says there are several antitrust concerns with this purchase.
He says a major concern is there’s a large percentage of lamb processing being lost while a mega sized processor is gaining more market share.
Gotschall says the new lamb processing facility coming on-line in Brush, Colorado handles a different type of lamb product than the Greeley plant did.
Gotschall says there are two agencies currently investigating JBS for possible antitrust and Packers and Stockyards Act violations including the USDA and DOJ.
