The National Transportation Safety Board has investigators at the scene of Saturday’s train derailment and fire south east of Scotland. Seven ethanol cars derailed and three caught fire Saturday morning. The BNSF train was hauling ninety eight cars loaded with ethanol.
Ted Turpin with the NTSB says they have people looking at many aspects of the accident and rail equipment…………
Turpin says another investigator is following up on rail operations………
Turpin says other investigators are looking at each damaged car, and its mechanical condition, and also talking to emergency responders.
Turpin says they will combine their information into a report which will take some months to compile…………
Turpin says they may have some preliminary observations later this week.
BNSF says they hope to reopen the rail line possibly by tomorrow night.
