NRCS Programs Available to Livestock Producers Hit by Flooding

Nebraska Natural Resources Conservation Service officials say cattle producers who have lost livestock due to flooding may be able to receive assistance through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program. Joanna Pope with the Nebraska State NRCS office says producers should apply at their local office by April 5.

She says producers only need to sign up at this point to be considered for the assistance.

Pope says EQIP can help farmers and ranchers in a number of ways to recover from the flooding.

Typically, producers cannot begin working on an EQIP practice before their contract has been approved. However, with the urgency NRCS is encouraging producers to sign up, then submit a waiver to begin animal disposal before their EQIP contract is approved.
