October 20 is the deadline for producers to sign up for the latest round of funding for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program or EQIP. South Dakota NRCS Coordinator Jennifer Wurtz says there are two ways to apply, either on line or at your local county NRCS office.

She says EQIP offers landowners both financial and technical assistance for a wide range of practices.

Wurtz says the two most popular conservation programs in South Dakota are EQIP and the Conservation Stewardship Program.

Wurtz says NRCS also has two other initiatives available for landowner sign up. That includes the National Water Quality Initiative for the Skunk Creek Watershed North of Sioux Falls and the Fire Steel Creek Initiative North of Mitchell.
