The National Pork Producers Council says the Small Business Administration needs to remove a restriction contained in their Payment Protection Program that’s left several pork producers ineligible for the program. NPPC’s Director of International Affairs Maria Zieba says that program glitch needs fixing.
She says SBA must recalculate how the PPP works so pork producers can apply and be allowed into the program.
Zieba says the PPP will likely run out of money again just like it did with the first program. And she says what may be needed is a new program to aid producers suffering for the COVID 19 Pandemic as well as the depressed ag economy.
Zieba says the pandemic has only added to the economic woes pork producers have been suffering from including the impacts from trade retaliation from China and Mexico that led to them having enough losses they didn’t qualify for the SBA’s PPP.
