Trade Promotion Authority legislation has been introduced in both Houses of Congress. It gives the President the authority to negotiate trade agreements with just an up or down vote by Congress. National Pork Producers Trade Counsel Nick Giordano says TPA is needed in order for successful conclusions for both the Trans Pacific Partnership and the Trans Atlantic Trade Investment Partnership agreements.
Giordano says TPA is the catalyst needed to advance U.S. proposals to reduce tariffs, and improve market access for producers in trade negotiations. He says it becomes even more important with TPP in its final stages.
Joining NPPC in backing the trade promotion authority legislation is the American Farm Bureau Federation.
