The National Pork Producers Council is welcoming recommendations made by a White House Advisory panel on antibiotic resistance. The panel noted that America’s pork producers have been doing their part to tackle the growing resistance problem. NPPC Chief Veterinarian Dr. Liz Wagstrom says the pork industry has been proactive in their approach to antibiotic use in the herd for many years now.

She says one of the key findings of the President’s advisory panel is that there’s a major discrepancy in how government funding has been allocated to deal with antibiotic resistance.

Wagstrom says its critical going forward that livestock producers are able to use antibiotics in their herds, so they can effectively protect the health of their animals.

The next meetings for the President’s advisory panel on antibiotic resistance will be in June and September.
