Iowa pork producer Jen Sorenson of Des Moines has taken the reigns as President of the National Pork Producers Council at this week’s Pork Forum held virtually. Sorenson says their top policy priority is working to get California’s Proposition 12 thrown out that dictates housing method to agricultural producers. She says their battle in continuing in the 9th. Circuit Court of Appeals with oral arguments due April 14.

She says they’re also working for worker safety in the processing industry and opposing any mandates that would disrupt the food supply and hamper safety efforts already put in.

Sorenson says another priority is expanding trade and achieving more export markets.

Sorenson says they’re also pushing for immigration reforms and are supporting the re-introduction of the Farm Workforce Modernization Act that calls for reforming the H-2A visa program to address the agricultural labor shortage
