The National Pork Producers Council has released a white paper detailing the benefits of the North American Free Trade Agreement. Dave Warner with NPPC says the white paper has important information in it the Administration and Congress need to keep in mind when renegotiating or modernizing NAFTA.
Under NAFTA, for all U.S. goods and services, Canada and Mexico account for more than one third of total U.S. exports adding $80 billion to the U.S. economy and supporting more than 14 million American jobs. Warner says Mexico is the number two market for U.S. pork while Canada is number four.
Warner says NAFTA has many other benefits besides those for agriculture.
Warner says it’s critical the Trump Administration doesn’t disrupt pork exports to either Canada or Mexico when modernizing NAFTA. He says currently there’s zero tariffs on U.S. pork to either country and maintaining that is paramount.
