The foreign ag worker shortage in the United States is impacting America’s pork industry. Dustin Baker, Deputy Director of Economics and Domestic Production for the National Pork Producers Council says it’s an animal welfare issue that needs fixing.
He says that ag labor shortage is impacting pork producers as well as dairy farmers and those who harvest vegetable crops.
Baker says NPPC is backing Congressman Bob Goodlatte’s immigration legislation calling for an H2C visa program that would allow non seasonal foreign ag workers to remain the United States for up to three years.
Baker says NPPC is also working with other agricultural groups to support the Goodlatte bill in the House.
