The National Pork Producers Council is encouraged about the possibility of the United States re-joining the Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement. Recently President Donald Trump indicated he might be willing to do that and 25 U.S. Senators wrote him asking him to follow through. NPPC President Ken Maschoff says since the U.S. pulled out of the talks, there’s been work on bi laterals deals but those are difficult to achieve.
He says if the United States joins the TPP it could lead to more trade deals.
Maschoff says since the other 11 nations are moving ahead with TPP, that makes it more likely the U.S. could get back in.
Maschoff says all of the remaining nations involved in TPP have a great appetite for pork and the U.S. is in a good position to get product to them.
