House Democrats earlier this week came up with another COVID 19 relief plan. Part of the measure calls for amending the Commodity Credit Corporation Charter to allow those funds to be used for livestock disposal due to the pandemic. National Pork Producers Council President Elect Jen Sorenson of Iowa says her group favors that idea and says that would be very helpful for pork producers.
She says the relief the House came up is something NPPC has been advocating for but doesn’t believe it has much chances of getting approved in the Senate.
Sorenson says NPPC is grateful for earlier aid approved by Congress that has been beneficial for smaller producers. She says more help is needed however for medium and large size pork operations.
Besides the amended CCC charter provision, the House bill also calls for increasing supplemental nutrition assistance benefits. The total cost of the package is $2.2 trillion dollars.
