The National Pork Producers Council is lauding the Trump Administration for moving ahead with bilateral free trade talks with Japan. NPPC’s Dave Warner says Japan is a critical customer and the number one value market for U.S. pork.
He says it’s also critical the U.S. enter into an FTA with Japan because they already have deals with the European Union as well as the remaining nations in the former Trans Pacific Partnership.
Warner says NPPC’s goal is to get FTA’s with other countries that contain zero tariffs on American pork.
Warner says time is of the essence in completing a bilateral pact with Japan as the TPP minus the U.S. is set to be finalized in early 2019.
