The National Pork Producers Council outlined their priority measures during World Pork Expo this week in Des Moines, Iowa. NPPC President Jen Sorenson says their top focus is urging the Biden Administration to appeal the court ruling that will slow down line speeds beginning July 1 at pork processing plants. She says the cost of that move to the pork industry will be astronomical.
She says NPPC wants the U.S. to sign on to become a member of the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans Pacific Partnership agreement but don’t expect it to happen this year
Sorenson says expanding international markets is another priority as they want the U.S. to enhance trade with the Philippines and Vietnam as well as getting harmful tariff removed on U.S. pork sent to China.
Sorenson says NPPC is also continuing to join the American Farm Bureau in legal action to get California to remove its Proposition 12 which dictates housing measures to pork and poultry producers.
