January 22 is the deadline for livestock operations to report their air emissions under the CERCLA or Superfund Law. Those operations were exempt for several years, until last April when a court ruling reversed the exemption. Dave Warner of the National Pork Producers Council says there are several problems with the regulation, so his group is encouraging producers to talk to their members of Congress about a legislative exemption.
He says the reporting requirement will lead to a slew of calls to the Coast Guard which has to record emissions reports under CERCLA.
Warner says his group wants producers to log onto the Freedom to Farm.com website and contract their elected officials to show their opposition to the rule.
Warner says with the deadline only a week away, its critical producers voice their concerns as soon as possible.
