The clock is ticking on whether or not the United States can complete a free trade deal with the United Kingdom under the current Trump administration or even under the incoming Biden administration. The National Pork Producers Council wants to see it completed. Vice President and Counsel of Global Government Affairs Nick Giordano says it’s all tied to Trade Promotion Authority.

He says while the time line is tight getting an agreement finished is possible.

Giordano says a must in any deal with the U.K.. is elimination of non-tariff trade barriers which has been an uphill climb in dealing with the European Union.

Giordano says now that the United Kingdom has chosen to leave the E.U. it needs to leave behind it’s policies backing those non-tariff barriers and embrace sound science going forward.
