The National Pork Producers like many U.S. agricultural groups is awaiting details of the U.S. China trade resolution agreement. The deal has yet to be signed and the Chinese want additional talks before proceeding. NPPC’s Jim Monroe says while they’re glad to see positive movement in that area, are also seeing more pork exports going to China and the Chinese have also lifted punitive tariffs on pork.

He says the Chinese need more pork on the table for their people and the U.S. is in a position to meet those needs.

Monroe says while China’s need for pork has been heightened by their African Swine Fever outbreak, another potential market for U.S. pork is Vietnam where they too have been dealing with ASF.

Monroe notes that Ag Undersecretary Ted McKinney is currently leading a trade mission to Vietnam and is hoping he’ll make more inroads into that market.
