Tuesday, the Trump administration announced it’s withdrawing the GIPSA Farmer Fair Practice Rules. The move is being hailed by the National Pork Producers Council. Nebraska Pork Producers Association President Russ Vering is also pleased with the decision. He says if USDA had allowed the rules to be implemented, it would have resulted in needless over regulation.
He says if the rules had gone forward there would have also been a slew of legal entanglements that would have negatively impacted the pork industry.
Vering also says the GIPSA rules wouldn’t have helped the parties it was designed to protect.
The Organization for Competitive Markets was disappointed with the move by the USDA on the GIPSA rules. Their leadership is calling for President Trump to issue an executive order to implement the rules.
