The attempt by meat industry groups to stop implementation of Country of Origin Labeling through the courts has failed. That after the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia this week dismissed their action. The National Pork Producers Council which was one of the groups challenging the law now will look to other ways to amend or repeal COOL. NPPC President Dr. Howard Hill says one place they’re pointing to is through the World Trade Organization.
Hill says their next step to change Country of Origin Labeling will be to work with Congress for a legislative fix.
Canada continues to threaten retaliation if the U.S. doesn’t fix the COOL law. They say the regulation has cost their cattle and pork industry over $ 800 million.
