The nation’s pork producers outlined their top legislative priorities during this week’s National Pork Producers Council Legislative Action Conference. Minnesota Pork Producers Association CEO Dave Preisler says trade remains critical to the continued success of the pork industry so they want expanded market access.

He says they’re targeting several areas of funding in the Ag Appropriations process to protect the nation’s producers from foreign animal diseases.

And Preisler says they want Congress to address the agricultural labor shortage, even if they can’t pass comprehensive immigration reform.

Preisler says pork producers are concerned about changes in the tax law and want estate tax exemptions and stepped up basis preserved.
