The National Pork Producers Council is joining more than 100 groups fighting antibiotic resistance, including Health and Human Services and The Centers for Disease Control. They’re working on an initiative to create international standards and codes of practices to prevent unsafe residues of veterinary drugs in food. NPPC’s Dave Warner says his group wants to play their part in curbing antibiotic resistance.

He says research is a big part of the answer to fighting resistance and still being able to keep animals healthy.

Warner says another effective step is to target use of the product.

Warner says NPPC wants to get standards adopted that are accepted by the World Organization for Animal Health and the U.N. Codex Alimentarius Commission, which is the international food safety standards setting organization.
