A COVID-relief package with assistance for hog farmers and foreign animal disease prevention topped the list of critical issues at the National Pork Producers Council’s Legislative Action Conference last week. Minnesota Pork Producers Association Director of Public Policy Engagement Lauren Servick while they appreciate the $23 per hog CFAP 2 payment USDA announced Friday, they will need more assistance for pandemic losses such as euthanasia of hogs.
She says NPPC is also urging Congress to fully fund foreign animal disease prevention programs.
Servick says they also talked to lawmakers about other priorities such as trade and reauthorizing Mandatory Price Reporting, which expires at the end of the month.
NPPC hosted the virtual Legislative Action Conference in place of their annual Washington D.C. Fly-in.
