National Pork Producers Council officials are concerned about electronic logging device rules. NPPC Assistant Vice President for Domestic Affairs and Counsel Michael Formica says that regulation only allows drivers to haul for 11 hours before having to pull over and stop.
He says that creates a huge animal welfare problem.
Formica says he met with the Secretary of Transportation and filed a petition asking for a waiver and exemption for livestock producers.
Formica says if they can get the delay on the rule granted, he’s hopeful they’ll find a solution that will protect livestock and give drivers more leeway.
