President Donald Trump says by June 15 he’ll announce a final list of $ 50 billion in imports from China that will be subject to tariffs of 25 percent. The National Pork Producers Council is expressing concern with the statement and further trade upheaval with China, an important customer of U.S. pork. Jim Monroe is with NPPC is hoping there’ll be an end to this trade dispute.
He says the retaliatory tariffs by China on American pork prior to this announcement has been costly for U.S. pork producers.
Monroe is hoping U.S. trade officials will be able to find a reasonable resolution to this problem and restore that important Chinese market for American pork.
The $50 billion in tariffs on Chinese imports would be the first in a package that the White House said could lead to tariffs on a total of $150 billion in Chinese imports.
