National Pork Producer Council members want the Trump Administration to lift steel and aluminum tariffs on Canada and Mexico. NPPC’s Director of International Affairs Maria Zieba says so do Mexican and Canadian officials.

She says the steel and aluminum tariffs are hurting all facets of U.S. agriculture not just the pork industry.

Zieba says she’s had many meetings with members of Congress about the need to ratify the USMCA trade deal. She says that will be a tough lift though until the tariffs are removed.

Earlier, Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue said that if the steel and aluminum tariffs remain in place following the implementation of the USMCA, it will any gains made in the agreement.
