National Pork Producers Council leaders are asking pork producers to contact their members of Congress to ask them to rescind the GIPSA or Farmer Fair Practice Rules. NPPC President John Weber says they’re hoping to use the REINS ACT which recently passed in the House to help roll back all the onerous regulations, including the GIPSA rules. He says if these regulations are implemented it will lead to unnecessary litigation.

He says the GIPSA Farmer Fair Practice Rules will also lead to higher costs for both the packer and the pork producer.

Weber says the GIPSA rules won’t help stop the trend of consolidation in the industry.

Weber says if the GIPSA Rules are not rescinded it will be economically devastating for the pork industry.
