The National Pork Producers Council has written to Federal officials and members of Congress asking for speedy solutions to the labor shortage facing agriculture. NPPC’s Jim Monroe says that shortage has been increased by the spreading of Covid-19.
He says the pork industry needs help to prevent bottlenecks in the pork supply chain caused by Covid-19 that keeps hogs from being marketed.
Monroe says another major concern is how the closure of schools due to the coronavirus effects those working on pork operations for caring for their animals and those working in processing plants from getting to work.
Monroe notes that the ag labor shortage threatens to increase productions costs and food prices for consumers.
