TRUMP RECEIVED LARGEST MARGIN OF VICOTRY IN IOWA IN THE PAST HALF CENTURY

IOWA – National poll watchers were talking about an Iowa poll a few days before the election that showed Kamala Harris with a 3 point lead on Donald Trump, but then election day swung that hard in the opposite direction.  Trump didn’t just make history in Iowa in 2020 by winning the state for a third time in a general election, he also did it by a larger margin than anyone else in half a century.

Trump’s final numbers may not be official for a week more weeks. But they will likely show that he took the state by 13 or 14%.

That margin tops all other recent presidential candidates’ totals in the state for a general election.

As a comparison here are some of the past margins:

2008: Democrat Barack Obama vs. Republican John McCain (+9.5%)

2004: Republican George W. Bush vs. Democrat John Kerry (+0.7%)

1996: Democrat Bill Clinton vs. Republican Bob Dole (+10.3%)

1980: Republican Ronald Reagan vs. Democrat Jimmy Carter (+12.7%)

MOBRIDGE FAMILY DONATES THIS YEAR’S CAPITOL CHRISTMAS TREE

MOBRIDGE, S.D. (Jody Heemstra / Dakota Radio Group) – While many South Dakotans were taking part in the election process on Tuesday, the state Departments of Transportation and Agriculture and Natural Resources were in Mobridge harvesting the featured tree for the 2024 Christmas at the Capitol display.

Deb Lutz of Mobridge donated the Colorado Blue Spruce. Information from DANR says the family got the tree 30 years ago as a sapling during an Arbor Day event at school. It was planted by Lutz’s husband and daughter, Carrie Getz when she was in 4th grade.

Lutz says she and her late husband– who enjoyed photography– would visit the Capitol each year to admire the Christmas tree and take photos. She says he often expressed how wonderful it would be to see the tree he and his daughter planted becoming the featured tree one day. With this memory in mind, Lutz has been looking forward to donating the tree to the Capitol for the past three years.

Jensen Rock & Sand, Inc., volunteered its time and equipment for harvesting the tree and the state Department of Transportation brought the tree to Pierre.

Last year’s featured tree was donated by the Isaac LaLonde family of Onida.

US ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS SET TO CURB RELEASES TO BRING FLOWS TO WINTER RATES

YANKTON, S.D. – Water release at Gavins Point Dam is currently running at 32,000 cubic feet per second.  The US Army Corps of Engineers says that number will be reduced in late November because flow support to navigation is coming to an end.

Around November 22 the release restrictions will be moved to the winter rate which is 12,000 cubic feet per second.

The plan is to do this gradually, reducing the release by 3,000 cubic feet per second each day until they reach 15,000 CFS…at that time the corps will slow down the rate of reduction to 1,000 CFS every five days until they reach the 12,000 CFS flow.

According to officials the flow support season will end on December 1st at the mouth of the Missouri River.  Those same officials say that releases at Fort Randall will be stepped down in a similar manner, but the schedule there will be approximately one day ahead of the Gavins Point schedule.
