Northwestern’s men posted a four round, 72 hole total of 1227 to claim the 2016-17 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men’s Golf Championship.
Morningside was second in the team race with a 1236, while Dakota Wesleyan placed third with a 72 hole total of 1240.
The 72 holes were played at Willow Run in Sioux Falls, SD, (18 in the fall) and Woodland Hills in Eagle, NE (54 in the spring).
In the individual race Corey Matthey from Morningside posted four round total of 302, with a final round of 75 to claim medalist honors. Tom Hogg from Dakota Wesleyan and Joe Vest from Midland tied for second at 305 each.
Tuesday’s final round was played with temperatures in the mid to upper 40’s with winds of 15-20 mph.
Northwestern earns the GPAC Automatic Berth to the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship in Silvis, Illinois, at TPC Deere Run. The event runs May 16-19, 2017. Matthey also advances as the GPAC Individual Medalist.
